Earl Boyea will celebrate a Traditional Latin Mass in the crypt of our Diocese's Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. This Pontifical Mass will serve to inaugurate a new quasi-parish community organized around the celebration of the Mass and other sacraments according to the books of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Subject: First Meeting of Discernment of Spirits Group

Blessings all who came to the introductory meeting and expressed an interest in the Discernment of Spirits group.

As you know we are meeting before the GenChrist meeting on the Second Sunday of each month at 6:00 pm in the parish hall at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Thus, we will be have our first meeting this coming Sunday, October 10th at 6:00 pm.

You may invite others to come who may be interested. I will give a five minute synopsis of what we covered in the introductory meeting on September 26th, then we will launch into what we will begin to cover in our group in this fascinating, and eminently effective, enterprise of the discernment of spirits.

We will be using Father Timothy Gallagher's book The Discernment of Spirits (An Ignatian Guide for Everyday Living). [Since I get these through our bookstore I can give them for half price - $10; however, if at this point that is even too much for your student budget, you may take one as my gift].

For those who want to enter the even more intensive experience of learning the discernment of spirits through receiving the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in Daily Life (which will begin in January and last through June) I will indicate some readings and experiences you might do to gradually prepare for that experience.

Looking forward to our "spiritual communio,"

Father Dennis Brown, OMV

p.s. As we mentioned in the first meeting, Diane Eriksen has collaborated with Fr. Timothy Gallagher, OMV, to write a "study-guide" for the Discernment of Spirits book. It will be published soon, but the publisher has given us permission to use it (and even invites our feedback). Thus Diane will be e-mailing us each month the pertinent parts of the guide to use related to the place we are in the DoS book.
