Epiphany House Blessing and FMH Christmas Party

Before the Christmas season comes to an end (this Sunday, according to the OF calendar), God has once again sent us snow to help support a festive celebration.

This evening, you're invited to join the women of SCH and the men of FMH in celebrating the annual blessing of the houses and the blessing/exorcism of salt, water, oil and chalk. We will begin with sung evening prayer at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of St. Catherine House, continue with the blessing of the items and the houses and then concluded with the Fr. McGivney House Christmas party till 11:00 p.m. Here is the program for evening prayer and Latin Epiphany blessings and exorcisms.

Please bring any salt, oil or chalk you would like blessed. If you would like blessed water, please bring an empty container to fill.

(Following the Friday-penance-cancelling Solemnities of Christmas and Mary, Mother of God, the obligation will again apply next week that all Catholics must do some act of penance on Fridays - whether fast and abstinence or some other penance (See U.S. Bishops' Pastoral Statement on Penance and Abstinence, paragraphs 18-28: pdf). Anyone interested in a communal act of penance may join us for stations of the cross. There is a wedding rehearsal at 5:30, so the stations will begin somewhat early, at 5:00 p.m. - please arrive at the front door between 4:55-5:00, if you would like to participate.)

Pope Benedict's Prayer Intentions

Each month, Pope Benedict XVI announces his special prayer intentions--particular things that he wishes all Catholics to pray for that month. (When, for instance, we pray the rosary and say the prayers at the end for the intentions of the Holy Father, these are the intentions for which we're praying.) Pope Benedict offers two intentions every month, one general, and one for a particular Catholic missionary activity.

His general prayer intention for January 2010 is "That young people may learn to use modern means of social communication for their personal growth and to better prepare themselves to serve society."

Pope Benedict's mission intention is "That every believer in Christ may be conscious that unity among all Christians is a condition for more effective proclamation of the Gospel."
