The House is designed to help women grow in holiness, in their relationship with the Lord and in their desire to know God's will for their life.

Some benefits of life at St. Catherine House include:
*SHARING A HOME WITH OUR LORD IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT!
*Close proximity to campus, St. Thomas and Zingerman's!
*Opportunity to experience life in community through House dinners, small groups
*Monthly Mass and dinners with speakers who will encourage growth in holiness
*Retreats in September and January

Pope Benedict's Prayer Intentions

Each month, Pope Benedict XVI announces his special prayer intentions--particular things that he wishes all Catholics to pray for that month. (When, for instance, we pray the rosary and say the prayers at the end for the intentions of the Holy Father, these are the intentions for which we're praying.) Pope Benedict offers two intentions every month, one general, and one for a particular Catholic missionary activity.

His general prayer intention for February 2010 is "For all scholars and intellectuals, that by means of sincere search for the truth they may arrive at an understanding of the one true God."

Pope Benedict's mission intention is "That the Church, aware of its own missionary identity, may strive to follow Christ faithfully and to proclaim His Gospel to all peoples."

Scythian

Scythian will play The Ark on Monday, March 8th at 8:00 p.m. Ticket might be available for purchase at GenChrist on February 14th and 21st. Please email back if you would be interested in purchasing your ticket at GenChrist.

Tickets are also available online.

Blessed Palms

Please bring your old blessed palms for this year's Ash Wednesday service to the labeled basket which is located near the Baptismal font.

Alternative Spring Break

Are you looking to give a little more of yourself this spring break, and want to spend it serving the poorest of the poor? Generation Christ is organizing a Spring Break trip to Chicago, IL, to spend a week with Mother Teresa's order: the Missionaries of Charity. We will primarily be working in a soup kitchen with the sisters and in a home for pregnant women and their children during the day. In the evenings we'll have some free time together and will get to do social activities and, of course, community prayer!

We plan to leave Ann Arbor on the morning of Saturday, February 27th, and will probably return on Saturday, March 6th. You don't need any special talent to come...just a heart full of love that is ready to serve others. We're also asking anyone who is coming to be flexible and dedicated...we guarantee that everything won't go exactly as planned and don't be surprised if we end up sleeping on the floor in our sleeping bags! Please email Marissa Mantey at marissa dot mantey at gmail dot com if you're interested in coming by no later than Friday, February 12th. If you're interested in coming now but don't want to commit right away, feel free to email her to at least give her a heads up that you're interested. We'll probably be doing an easy fundraiser after the February 20-21 Masses, so don't expect to pay more than $50 to sign up.

Pope Marcellus Mass with Gregorian Chants - St.Mary Cathedral

(This event occurs at the same time as Generation Christ. It is included here in case you would like to recommend it to friends in East Lansing or other distant parts who were unlikely to make it to GenChrist anyway.)

Celebrate the first Sunday of Lent on Sunday, February 21, 2010 with MSU College of Music's University Chorale as they perform a unique concert of the complete Pope Marcellus Mass by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Gregorian Chant Propers.

Conducted by David Rayl, Director of MSU Choral Programs, the group will perform at St. Mary Cathedral, located at 219 Seymour Avenue in Lansing at 7:00 p.m.. This is a rare opportunity to hear the Pope Marcellus Mass, an a cappella Mass, to be sung in its entirety. Composer Palestrina is considered by many as the greatest composer of the High Renaissance period.

Along with the Pope Marcellus Mass, the audience will be able to hear the Gregorian chants that are "proper" for the first Sunday of Lent. All of the music will be sung in Latin.

"The Mass will be sung in the order in which it would have been performed in the Sistine Chapel in the 1550's," said Rayl. "It is such a classic and iconic work in the choral repertoire."

Author Melvin Berger describes this piece of music as follows: "Nothing intrudes, nothing upsets, everything is in balance and in proportion, creating a wonderful sense of other worldly beauty and heavenly repose."

Tickets, priced at $10, $8 for senior citizens (60 and older) and free for students and those under 18, will be available at the door. For more information about the concer, call the College of Music at (517) 353-5340.
