"Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me."
Represent GenChrist this Sunday, September 26th, at the Robert J. Delonis Center to help cook, serve and clean up following the Sunday meal. Four hours in the kitchen helps to serve over 200 hungry adults and children. GenChrist serves there each month from noon-4:30pm, and you can join us for a single shift (12-2:30 to cook or 2:30-4:30 to serve and clean up) or for the entire afternoon. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you! ~Mark Meinhart

Lay Formation Group
The young adult spiritual formation group will kick-off before GenChrist, at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26th.
Information from Fr. Brown: An Ignatian discernment group for young adults is in the process of being formed. The group will enter deeply into the science and art of discernment of spirits.
You might wonder, what this “discernment of spirits” is. Briefly, it means that there are thoughts in my head and other movements in my soul. Do they come from me, from the good spirits, or from the evil spirits? How to distinguish? We will discuss this.
A practical experience of developing this skill and also for other developments in the spiritual life is the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. This experience will be offered to those who desire and are called to effectively use this assistance in their spiritual life. The group will also enter into discussions of other aspects of the spiritual life and apostolate.
Father Dennis Brown, OMV, will guide these meetings using principles from the founder of his religious congregation, Venerable Pio Bruno Lanteri.
See this previous update for more information.

Cathedral Latin Mass
On Sunday, October 10, 2010, Bp. Earl Boyea will celebrate a Traditional Latin Mass in the crypt of our Diocese's Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. This Pontifical Mass will serve to inaugurate a new quasi-parish community organized around the celebration of the Mass and other sacraments according to the books of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.
While there are hundreds of regular Sunday TLMs throughout the U.S., Bp. Boyea will be only the 2nd or 3rd American bishop to organize such a community under the care of a diocesan priest.
More information can sometimes be found at http://getholy.com/
A group from Generation Christ will be attending the Mass and any celebration afterward. Please contact Paul if you would like to arrange car-pooling.

Bl. John Henry Cd. Newman: In My Own Words
For our next Wednesday evening celebration of reading, we will discuss a compilation from many of Newman's writing which was carefully prepared by Br. Lewis Berry to convey the heart of Newman's teachings, story, and spirit so as to deepen our familiarity with this saintly and influential man of God.

GenChrist Notes
Recap: Pope Benedict in the UK
Pope Benedict's important visit to the UK is now successfully concluded. Praised be Jesus Christ! For CatholicCulture recaps, see here and here; analysis, here. If you haven't had a chance to view the full videos of the beautiful liturgies and other public events, they are still available here.
Pope Benedict's Prayer Intentions
Each month, Pope Benedict XVI announces his special prayer intentions--particular things that he wishes all Catholics to pray for that month. (When, for instance, we pray the rosary and say the prayers at the end for the intentions of the Holy Father, these are the intentions for which we're praying.) Pope Benedict offers two intentions every month, one general, and one for a particular Catholic missionary activity.
His general prayer intention for October 2010 is "For the terminally ill, that in their sufferings they may be sustained by faith in God and by the love of others."
Pope Benedict's mission intention is "That the celebration of World Mission Sunday may increase in the People of God the passion for evangelization and the support of missionary activity through prayer and economic aid for the poorest Churches."

Testing the Waters
Some members of Generation Christ have been proposing the following trips for this fall and have asked whether anyone else would be interested in joining:
Montreal: On Sunday, October 17th, in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI will canonize Montreal's Brother André Bessette, making him the first male Canadian-born saint and the first saint from the Congregation of Holy Cross (i.e., Notre Dame; Fr. Dan Parrish). The introduction to a documentary concerning Br. André can be found here.
On Saturday, October 30th, in Montreal, the Cardinal Archbishop and tens of thousands of faithful will gather in the Olympic Stadium for a Solemn Mass and celebration of Br André's life and faith. There will also be special Masses the next day in Montreal's Notre Dame Basilica. Some members of GenChrist are proposing to travel up, beginning Friday evening, to attend the festivities and become familiar with beautiful "old world" Montreal, before returning late on Sunday.
Chicago: On Tuesday, November 2nd, All Souls Day, at 7:30 p.m., a priest of St. John Cantius will celebrate a Solemn Mass for all of the Faithful Departed at that Chicago parish. The St. Cecelia Choir and Orchestra will assist with Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor.
Some members of GenChrist are proposing to travel down Tuesday morning, visit churches and/or seminaries of Chicago, attend the Mass and then return to Ann Arbor by early Wednesday afternoon.
Please send your name and the extent of your interest as to either of these possible plans and I'll be sure to pass them on.
