January 22: Day of Penance for the Sin of Abortion

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, paragraph 373, provides as follows:
In all the dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life. The Mass "For Peace and Justice" (no. 22 of the "Masses for Various Needs") should be celebrated with violet vestments as an appropriate liturgical observance for this day.

If you were not able to make the pilgrimage to the March for Life, please make some effort today to offer up some penance for the sin of our nation and for its improvement in the the future.

Some will be gathering to pray the Rosary at Planned Parenthood (Professional Drive) from 5 p.m. to midnight on this date. Contact Ann Cherney for more info: (734) 769-2271.

ST. CATHERINE HOUSE

Are you wondering what God's plan is for your life?
Are you considering the possibility of religious life?
Are you desiring continued growth in holiness in your own life?

If you are currently a student at University of Michigan (sophomore/junior/senior or graduate student) looking for an inspired alternative to dorm living, think about applying to live at St. Catherine House. The House is designed to help women grow in holiness, in their relationship with the Lord and in their desire to know God's will for their life.

Some benefits of life at St. Catherine House include:
*SHARING A HOME WITH OUR LORD IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT!
*Close proximity to campus, St. Thomas and Zingerman's!
*Opportunity to experience life in community through House dinners, small groups
*Monthly Mass and dinners with speakers who will encourage growth in holiness
*Retreats in September and January
*Adoration in the St. Catherine House Chapel
*Annual "Nun Run" every Fall
*Monthly spiritual direction

We are currently accepting applications and scheduling interviews for the SCH summer household (May/June/July) as well as the 2010/11 Academic year.

Both single/double room options are available. Rents for summer household are a fraction of academic year rents ... this is a wonderful option if you are considering staying in Ann Arbor to work through the summer.
