We re writing you today to encourage your spiritual and material preparation for this walk of prayer. If you have not confirmed your attendance, please do so soon, so that we can ensure adequate supplies.

Our first two pilgrimages have been blessed with beautiful weather - We are thankful for that past blessing and we hope for two beautiful days for the upcoming pilgrimage as well. To that end, and in preparation for the pilgrimage, the organizers have set aside this Friday as a day of prayer and of fast and abstinence for the intentions of weather that is pleasant to walk in, for an absence of pests and for safety along the roads. We invite you to join us in this corporate prayer and corporate mortification.

Since we re hoping and praying for beautiful weather, it makes sense that we practically prepare for it as well.

Clothes: We anticipate spending long hours in the sun each day of the pilgrimage. Though it might seem non-obvious initially, a best way to avoid sunstroke is cover as much skin as possible with clothing that is light so as to not retain heat and is light-colored so as not to absorb much energy from sunlight. Coincidentally, this sort of outfit is also very appropriate for the holy places we ll visit along the way as well the liturgies we ll attend. Gentlemen - as able, full khakis and light-colored shirts or polos are probably the way to go. Ladies - full pants or long skirts are likely the most protected way to go.

Hats: A large hat that breathes easily is your friend. You may not need to buy one. Find that high school buddy who always wore that totally unnecessary pith helmet and see whether you can borrow it from him or her. There is still time to make arrangements.

Shoes: We re going to be walking on pavement, gravel, broken sidewalks and possible grass. Bring shoes that you are comfortable in. Do not buy new shoes the day before the walk - you will have terrible blisters in a few hours. If you want, bring a several extra pairs of socks, so that you can get rid of the effects of foot perspiration throughout the day.

Food: The pilgrimage planners will provide a simple lunch and dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and we may be having dinner at the conclusion on Saturday. There will also be simple snacks, water, and sports drinks available during the walk. We recommend that each pilgrim bring a refillable water bottle to use between water stops. If you have specific allergies or other food requirements, please contact and work with the planners to make sure those needs are met or bring your own food (which can be transported along with the camping equipment). A $5 donation to help cover the cost of food is welcome but not required.

Sleeping pad: If you do not have have camping equipment and will need to share with someone else, let us know. Please bring your own bedding, etc.

Other practical notes:
Please be aware that it is our intention that the pilgrim assistance corps will transport items throughout the walk. If you ll be staying over Friday night - you don t need to carry your sleeping bag or foam pad on your back - just bring them (well labeled) to the starting point, and the corps will take care of them from there. Same thing with any changes of clothes, shoes, etc.

Similarly, please know that you can come and go as you need to, the corps will coordinate with you to drive you to your car etc.

Please continue to invite people to the pilgrimage and to send them the facebook invitation to each day:
Day 1: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=147688581966406
Day 2: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=170764779646839

Musical preparation:
As Friday is the Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist, we will be singing variations (English as well as Latin) on the Solemnity hymn throughout the day and throughout the pilgrimage. Should you have the time, you may wish to familiarize yourself with the Latin original:
Ut queant laxis ("O for thy spirit, holy John")
pdf
mp4

God bless,
Andrea, Andrew, Mary Anne, Michelle, Neil and Paul

 var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ?
